A map that remembers.
Every symbol is a cell on your map. It glows when you know it and fades when you start to forget. One look shows you what to review.
Sounds that belong together live together.
Sounds from the same part of the mouth are neighbours. Initials are teal, finals are amber. A dashed edge means: review me.
Lessons that feel like a game.
Listen, tap, build, trace and speak. 19 types of exercise keep every lesson fresh. A wrong answer comes back later, with a short tip.
Every symbol has its own page.
Tap a cell to hear the symbol in a recording from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. See the mouth and read a tip. Four bars show your skills: recognise, recall, write and use.
Every syllable. Every tone.
Spread two fingers on the map to open all 350 syllables. Tap one to hear its tones.
See how far you came.
Levels, crowns, streaks, badges, daily quests and a 7-day review forecast.

Write it, stroke by stroke.
Watch the official stroke order of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Trace it. Then write it from memory. The app checks the order and direction of every stroke.
Want paper? Print practice sheets for the symbols you know.
See your tones.
Say a syllable. Zhuyin Pro draws your pitch over the target, so you see at once if your third tone dips far enough. Mouth diagrams show the tongue, lips and air for every sound.

Read like a kid in Taipei.
Children’s books in Taiwan print 注音 beside every character. Read short stories the same way. Tap a character to hear it. Switch 注音 off when you are ready.

我叫大衛,我是美國人。
很高興認識你。
“Hello! What is your name? My name is David. I am American. Nice to meet you.”
Type the way Taiwan types.
Most people in Taiwan type with 注音, not pinyin. Learn the Dachen keyboard in the Keyboard Dojo. Then switch on the real one on your phone.
Five minutes today. Still there next month.
Short reviews at the right moment beat long study sessions. Zhuyin Pro uses FSRS, a modern memory model, to plan every review. Your daily review shows only what is fading.

From symbols to real words.
Use your Zhuyin on the words that matter. Three word paths follow TOCFL, Taiwan’s official Chinese test. A word opens as soon as you know all its symbols.

Questions and answers
What is Zhuyin?
Zhuyin (注音), also called Bopomofo, is the phonetic alphabet of Taiwan. It has 37 symbols and 5 tone marks. Children in Taiwan learn it before characters, and most people in Taiwan type with it.
Does Zhuyin Pro work offline?
Yes. Everything works without a connection: lessons, audio, writing, words and reading. The Android app does not request internet access.
What do I need for the audio?
The 37 symbols play recordings from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, so they need nothing extra. Syllables and words use the Chinese voice of your phone, for example Chinese (Taiwan) in Google Speech Services. The app checks this and shows you how to install it.
I already know pinyin. Is this for me?
Yes. A placement test lets you skip what you already know. The Pinyin bridge exercises connect each pinyin spelling to its Zhuyin symbol.
Traditional or Simplified characters?
Taiwan uses Traditional characters with Zhuyin, so examples show Traditional by default. You can switch the examples to Simplified.
Can I take my progress to a new phone?
Yes. Android can move app data when you set up a new phone. You can also save a backup file and open it on the new phone.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. Zhuyin Pro is for Android phones and tablets.
Who makes Zhuyin Pro?
Merry Mandarin, a small team in Taoyuan, Taiwan. We also make Chinese Tone Trainer and Chinese Writer Pro.
